The Diary of a Bookseller by Shaun Bythell tells the story of a year in his life as owner of the largest second-hand bookshop in Scotland. He tells us about his irascible customers, deeply eccentric assistant, time examining the book collections of the recently deceased (his main source of stock), and he muses, grumpily, on the relationship between bricks-and-mortar shops and the almighty Amazon.

We've been so enamoured by this book since we acquired it, and have received such positive support from empathetic booksellers and amused customers, that we thought we'd pull out all the stops, recording the day's fun on Twitter on @ProfileBooks using #DiaryofaBookseller.

We hit up over 30 London bookshops with copies of the book, Scotch whisky, shortbread and bookmarks -- and another 20 Scottish bookshops got the VIP treatment as well via post.

You can see what we got up to, as well as Shaun's commentary, on this here Storify. Enjoy -- and there's a treat at the very end that we guarantee will make you chuckle.
